I recently switched from SAS to the Python data analysis stack (numpy/pandas/statsmodels) and am not looking back. However, that still doesn't stop me from continuing to find tremendous value in this book, which remains the most lucid and practical explanation of logistic regression I've come across. Mixing clearly explained math with useful anecdotal experience from practice, the author delivers value on every page. The sections on interpreting coefficients and dealing with convergence/separation issues alone are worth the price. Even though my logit code is now all in Python, I turn to this SAS book again and again for advice and clarification. I think even non-SAS users can benefit from this book.
I am a senior health economist at a Congressional agency and needed a nuts-and-bolts textbook to help me use SAS's Proc Logistic, because I don't have the patience to wade through the math of a text like Hosmer & Lemshow's fabled "Applied Logistic Regression." This text provides clear expositions of the different types of applications of the proc -- binomial, mutlinomial, ordered -- and provides clear explanations of how to interpret the output. My only complaint is that it does not seem to provide an explanation of what to do if the Pearson's and deviance chi-square statistics on model fit disagree. I bought the Kindle version so I could read it on the subway. It works quite well, but there do appear to be a few glitches where material was omitted.
I found this very helpful in establishing a better grasp of the basic fundamentals of logistic regression, and of course its implementation in SAS. There are excellent treatments of the basic mathematical concepts, including the derivation of the probability function. Much more clear and concise than I got in school.It is not comprehensive by a long shot, but it's a real gem for the basics.
Allison does an excellent job of getting the reader from zero to intermediate proficiency in logistic regression with SAS in not a lot of pages. This is a book that you will be glad to have in your library, not only for SAS but also for a fast statistical reference.The math in this book is very easy to understand. If you are looking for a detailed linear algebraic treatment of logistic regression, then this isn't the book for you. However, this is a book to purchase as a reference for rapid practical application of logistic regression modeling and diagnostics. It provides and explains the SAS code that you need to immediately get started.
This book has been beneficial to supplement my coursework in logistic regression. The author presents a variety of useful situations and provides potential steps to mitigate the problems that may occur in logistic regression.

This book is great, eminently readable, and provides plenty of example code for the novice SAS user to get to work, both understanding the ins and outs of logistic regression, but additionally coding to analyze their own data.
This is a fantastic book. It clearly and simply addresses why and when logistic regression should be used. Thus, it takes a hard concept and makes it easy to understand. The kicker of the book is it shows how to perform analysis with SAS and shows you code. I highly recommend this book!
