About the Author
Roger Priddy left school at 16 with just one qualification―in art. He went to Berkshire College of Art and Design and trained as an illustrator. His first job in children's books was working with the publisher Peter Usborne, at Usborne Publishing, and then he worked with Peter Kindersley at Dorling Kindersley, where he spent 16 years. Priddy became Creative Director of DK's Children's Division and was Managing Director of the children's mass market publisher Funfax when it was acquired by DK. In 2000, he created Priddy Books with John Sargent at St Martin's Press to create innovative and imaginative titles for children, from first books for babies through early reference titles for older children. The books are fantastic! My kids love drawing in them. The markers they come with require a damp cloth to clean them off the page then a dry cloth to dry the page because if you don't dry the page, there will be sploches from the wet marker residue. It's a pain! And did I mention that I have to use either multiple wet wipes or multiple damp cloths if I am cleaning more than 4 pages. And then my hands get all black from the marker residue left on the cloth or wet wipe. Ugh!I HIGHLY recommend buying a pack of Expo dry erase markers to go with these books. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0006HXJFK/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1They wipe off the books with a dry cloth or tissue, making it that much easier for my kiddos to clean on their own. And one tissue or cloth will clean the whole book! Saves time and effort! Well worth the $5-$6 to get 12 markers that actually WORK for the book! If you're gonna spend money on the book, so yourself a favor and buy decent markers to go with it!
I bought this as a gift for a 7 year old. She was excited to receive it and began practicing on the spot. It's a very nice book with wipe clean pages. It comes with an erasable pen, but I followed the advice of other reviewers and replaced it with Expo Erasable Markers.Cursive Handwriting is a 'rite of passage' toward adulthood for children. I think we've seen enough of "The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America" (Amazon carries multiple books on this subject) to realize this is not working out for us. Education needs to be more than focusing on standardized test scores.As for the contents of the book, the letters are not all formed the way most people were taught decades ago based on the standard cursive alphabet displayed in grade schools. For example, on lower case letters such as a, c, g, o--this book shows an upward beginning stroke from the baseline vs starting at the rounded portion. Lower case r & s do not have the sharp peak at the top of the initial upward stroke. Many upper case letters lack the beginning loops and/or beginning strokes taught in the past.That being said, it's a very 'clean' version of cursive and will get the job done. Kids will be able to learn cursive and thus be able to read documents, letters, sign their signature and such.
Don't make my mistake. Double check that all the pages are correct before your return timeframe expires!
My 3 year old daughter is in preschool and has been learning how to trace her name. I went on a search to find a book that she can trace the same letter over and over before having to erase. When I found this book and looked on the inside I knew this is what I was looking for. I purchased this one and the lower case alphabet, numbers 1-20 and the tracing shapes one. I also ordered the dry erase crayola crayons with it too based on some reviews I read before ordering. I just love these books now that I have them. My daughter will sit for hours just tracing in all the books! I haven't even bothered with the pen that came with the books cause the dry erase crayons work great! You have to use a little bit of pressure to get it all off but for the most part my daughter can do that herself. If you are looking for a great tracing book you have found it! :)
Wonderful workbook with spiral binding. Neat way to practice your letters. It starts systematically from looking, understanding, tracing until the lines fade away and you write by yourself. I ordered the lowercase letters, numbers and pen control as well. My only suggestion would be to club the uppercase A and lower case a together so they know they are writing the same letter, but that's insignificant. I'm happy with the product, I did not receive any pen along with it and don't care for it anyways. I bought the expo darker colours.
Awesome book! I like the simplicity of it compared to the ones that have a lot of stuff on each page. It would have been cheaper to go that route but with it being simple it will be much easier for me to have him focus. I do wish the marker that came with it had a cap that allowed you to clip it to the spiral. It was just attached with some small string on arrival. That would make it way easier not to lose.
My daughter is learning cursive writing in 3rd grade so I bought this to give her extra practice in learning this new skill. It contains both upper and lower case letters as well as full words. I dislike how the lower case letters are out of order, but other than that it has been a good product for learning cursive writing. It comes with a dry erase marker, but no cloth to wipe it clean so we used paper towels.
My second grader loves it and is getting a head start on cursive plus shes being entertained! Win win! Many pages and they wipe clean easily. I bought the tracing version of this book along with multi colored dry erase markers (pay extra for higher quality markers that dont stain pages) and my kids love them!
